Once roasted, pretty much all coffee beans look the same. Actually, there are more than 6000 variations of coffee beans worldwide but only 25 of it are considered as the major types. However within these 25 major types of beans, there are only two types of beans are important and commonly used by the customers.
Which one is healthy? Here I share comparison between arabica and robusta beans.
This type of coffee bean covers 40% of the coffee production worldwide. Robusta coffee beans are lower grades of coffee and high resistance to changes in weather thats why easier to grow it.Also this property makes it cheaper compared to Arabica. But it is unlikely to be used on its own due to astringent flavorings.
It contains huge amount of caffeine twice as much as in Arabica coffee. Caffeine issue is still debated. However some research showed that overcaffeination can cause heartburn and acid reflux. Over a prolonged period of time acid reflux can also cause esophageal cancer.
Due to the hight caffeine content and acidity, it should not be preferred.
Arabica , this type of coffee bean covers 60% of the coffee production worldwide because of the large bush that Arabica plants have.
Arabica plants are very susceptible to pests, disease and frost. With this reason, the coffee beans from the Arabica plants are expensive. Arabica coffee beans could be used on its whole form as well as it could be used as a base with Robusta for coffee blends.
