In this post, i’m talking about leptin hormone due to role of weight management. Many studies demonstrate that leptin as fat burning hormone which is primarily found in the fat cells. It does not work well under situation of starvation mode.
What is starvation mode ?
Our body is used to know how things were thousands of years ago. Eating less mean that you didn’t have access to food. At that time body shuts down metabolism and tries to keep fat. Your body is very smart, but it doesn’t know you are trying to lose weight. It thinks you are starving. Unfortunately, most popular diets believe same idea. Generally meal plans organize upon on less protein intake, less calorie consumption and more exercise. All they attribute starvation which causes killing leptin levels. Because it slows down your metabolism and then gain fat much easier. This takes some time to kick in, thats why you can see some weight loss in the first week or two mostly are water and muscle mass. The less lean muscle mass you have, the slower your metabolism and the harder it is for your liver to burn calories. Then you hit a plateau and stop losing weight. Sooner or later you start eating more again in order to prevent you from dying the next time you starve.
Leptin is Much More Important for Women
Although men can successfully lose some weight on a starvation diet, women’s bodies respond a bit different to the leptin signal and make this much more difficult. That’s why a good and proven diet plan is vital for losing weight if you are a woman. Although women’s fat-burning potential is 4 times faster than men, most of diets are rarely utilized from that. At that time, protein intake is also much more important for women. Because men have more muscle than women which leads women go into starvation mode much easier than men. This happens very quickly as soon as you restrict your protein intake. Especially women should try to keep your protein intake high.
How does leptin work ?
When body is fed and energy stores are sufficient, brain sends a signal to be released leptin hormone. The signal is sent up to finish enough energy in storage to maintain internal energy balance for cellular function. At that time appetite is suppressed and food intake decreases. If leptin levels are high, your body readily gets rid of stored belly fat until becomes starvation mode. Boosting leptin levels helps to enable your body to eliminate stored body and belly?
