Preparing ceremonial matcha is quick and easy – just a few minutes! But you need some tools to make it.
What are they ?
a bamboo tea ladle (chashaku)
a tea strainer
a bamboo whisk (chasen)
a traditional, ceramic matcha bowl (matcha-chawan).
To brew a cup ,start by measuring 1 flat teaspoon matcha powder in a tea strainer. If you’re using a bamboo scoop, it’s about two scoops.
Sift your matcha powder into your tea bowl by swirling around the strainer with ladle.
Then pour 5 oz. (~2/3 cup) boiling water into a teacup. Using a bamboo whisk, stir a few times to make sure all the clumps are off the bottom and side, whisk very briskly back and forth in a straight line for about 20-30 seconds. Then whisk in a zig-zag pattern until seems as bright green.
PS: To make extra-thick matcha, scoop 3 ladlefuls of matcha powder.
