Cupping therapy is a form of alternative medicine that has been used from ancient times. Cupping is the inverse of massage rather than applying pressure to muscles, cups are placed on the skin to create suction by using pressure to pull skin, tissue and muscle upward.
TYPES OF CUPPING THERAPY
They originate from two main methods – “dry” cupping and “wet” cupping.
Dry cupping (suction only)
Dry cupping is a method by which suction is created on particular points on the patient’s body.
Wet cupping (combination of suction and controlled medicinal bleeding)
Wet cupping is a type of controlled bloodletting by making multiple shallow pinpricks into the skin with a specialized lancet needling device. The sensation feels like mosquito bites.
Both of types of cupping strongly activates Qi (vital energy) and blood. When you compare these techniques, wet cupping is the fastest, most effective method to move congestion and sluggishness in the body.
